You do not have to be in the United States for USCIS to approve your Form I-131 and issue a reentry permit to you if your biometrics have been obtained. You can indicate on your Form I-131 that you want USCIS to send your reentry permit to a U.S. Embassy, or consulate, or a DHS office overseas, so you can pick it up from one of those facilities.

If you *have* the green card, you can stay up to 11 months without issues, according to information I found. However, if you do not yet actually have the green card, I believe you will need to enter the US in order to complete the process to get it.

GREEN CARD DOES NOT GUARANTEE YOU TO RETURN AFTER MORE THAN 6 MO AND 1 DAY OF OUT OF THE US! IN FACT YOUR GREEN CARD COULD BE CONFISCATED AND YOU BE SEND BACK? NEVER SAY YOU ARE WORKING OUTSIDE THE US WITH A GREEN CARD? THIS IS GROUND FOR LOSING YOUR GC? UNLESS YOU CAN CONVINCED THE USCIS TO ISSUE YOU A PAROLE VISA? WHICH I DOUBT?
Many actor with GC in the Philippines came back due to fear of losing their GC before 6 months?

You have to answer, Why do you choose to come back to your country while you are processing your papers here in the US? The USINS or ICE hates those whose using Green card for convenience? They might cancel your GC for your true intention in having one is for convenience and NOT truly to immigrate?

If you truly intend to live in the US, you should find employment in the US and leave behind the job in the other country, especially instead of staying more than six months (which can be construed as giving up your permanent residency).
