Most students don't seem to apply that far in advance. I mean, at most it will be a year generally, and some-like me-maybe only a matter of months, so I doubt that it could be that long.

Hi there,

I think it is better to apply 3 months before your class starts in the US since it depends on your country and the requirements on how long they will be process.

It doesn't have specific time.If your documents doesn't have any issues, then you will get your student visa soon.

Hi vhdm_7,

The length of time it takes to process a student visa application varies. There are applicants who may have problem with their documents which may take time to resolve.

Generally, it take about 9 months to enroll in a competitive university and about 6 months for most other universities. In the U.S., most university academic year begins in late August/early September. You should have already been accepted and scheduled a visa interview by June of the year you plan to enroll.

I am F1 student in US Studying masters in computer science and working fulltime using my CPT as a W2 employee legally. My visa already expired, but on my i-20 the completion date of my study is at the end of 2013.

I want to go back to home to visit my families. Since my visa already expired I couldnt risk of going home and not getting another visa to get back to US. How can I get a re-entry visa while i am in US? I heard that it is possible.

matiman, I believe you can re-apply for the F1 visa, or maybe apply for an extension. There should be information on the page about it at the top of this page.

krizconcuerda, I think you need to find the university you want to attend and make sure you meet the requirements AND make sure the school is allowed by the USCIS for foreign students. Then you can apply for the student visa.
